Details of SSYA Yoga Teacher Training
1-year intensive 200-hour course in Yoga @ NCH Wellness North that will certify you to be a Yoga teacher. Classes will be held at Wellness North on the last weekend of each month, beginning February 23-24th, and ending the last weekend of January, 2009. Hours of classes will be on Saturday 10-5 pm, and Sunday, 9-5 pm. This will provide you with the 180 hours of class time you need to be certified as a yoga teacher, in addition to at least 20 hours of home study.
Each student who completes the program will receive a graduation certificate that Yoga Alliance (the main certifying board) will recognize. Registration with Yoga Alliance means being able to teach Yoga anywhere in the United States. Even if you already have your certification, the course will definitely enhance your understanding and appreciation of Yoga.
Your instructor is Alan Lowenschuss, who has been a student of philosophy and world spirituality since his early teens. Alan holds a BA and an MA form the University of Pennsylvania, and is registered as eRYT 200 through Yoga Alliance, as well as a 300-hour certification through the American Institute of Vedic Studies. In addition to his formal training, Alan has studied Yoga with other highly qualified teachers in India and U.S., including Sri Karunamayi, David Swenson, Anandi Ma, and Dharma Mittra.
In Our Training We Will:
~ Explore the rich history and heritage of Yoga and India.
~ Learn 30+ basic yoga postures, including their modifications, adjustments, alignments, benefits, and contraindications.
~ Enjoy intensive training sessions together, challenging ourselves to fulfill our highest potential.
~ Learn how to deeply breathe, relax, and quiet and focus our minds at will.
~ Discuss how to make a good living while sharing this invaluable gift with others.
~ Bring healing to ourselves and others with the help of Yoga principles and practices.
******************************************** Pricing
The cost of the program is $150 each month, to be paid prior to the Saturday class session. An additional $75 is requested to pay for course materials. In total the cost for the entire course is $1875, which is considerably less than many similar YTT programs.
Those who do not wish to be certified, but who would like to attend for purposes of continuing education, personal growth, etc., may attend select weekends (or individual days) of the program. The price per weekend is the same for this option ($150 for the weekend), or $75 per day, even if it will not be possible to attend the entire day.

FAQ -- Questions You May Have About the Program (This will be updated, please check back.)
Q) Can I miss one of the weekend trainings?
A) Yes, you can miss a weekend, we will have one make-up weekend. If that's not enough, then we'll do another make-up date as well. I would prefer that no one misses more than 1 of the 12 weekends, but I realize that sometimes stuff happens. We'll have to see what attendance is like, but I'm going to strongly urge everyone to make all of the sessions.
Q) Can I do the trainings even if I don't want to get certified?
A) Yes. If you don't actually want to get certified, you can still do the training. That might seem to take some of the pressure off, but I still would recommend that you make as many of the sessions as you can. If you choose that option, you would pay per weekend that you come.
That said, we will also have the option to come per 3-hour segment, and pay for just that segment. More on that to come.
Q) As a registered yoga teacher already, do I have the option of coming to select weekends to receive continuing education credits?
A) Yes, just let me know which dates you plan to attend. For more about continuing education, click on the following link to the Yoga Alliance website: http://www.yogaalliance.com/FAQs.htm .
Q) Will all of the classes be at NCH Wellness North?
A) Yes, the classes will be at NCH Wellness North, because they are sponsoring it. The only exception will be Saturday mornings -- we'll meet at Wiggins Pass Beach. More on this later.
Q) Can I pay for the course materials myself, or is the $75 payment absolutely required?
A) Yes, you can get the materials yourself, with the exception of a course packet of materials I'll have for your. Kind of like a bulkpack. It's $30. I actually think I might be able to save everyone some money by buying in bulk, but yes, certainly you can get the books yourself.

Q) What's the difference between certification and registration?
A) Certification is given by a yoga teacher training school or a yoga tradition. Yoga Alliance registers, or acknowledges those who have met minimum training and education standards set by YA in the 5 standards areas: (Techniques, Teaching Methodology, Anatomy and Physiology, Philosophy/Lifestyle and Ethics for YTs or Practicum – student teaching).
In other words: You will be certified through SunShine State Yoga Academy, and then you register yourself as a teacher through Yoga Alliance.
